hanam City Wins Top Prize for Innovative Social Media Engagement
Hanam City, South Korea – Hanam City, led by Mayor Lee hyeonjae, has been awarded the grand prize in the Facebook category at the ’11th 2025 Korea SNS AWARD 2025.’ The awards, presented on the 26th, recognise public institutions and companies demonstrating exceptional dialog and results in their social media operations. The Korea Social Contents Promotion Association, alongside sponsors including the Ministry of Science and ICT, the Korea Influencer Industry Association, and the Congressional Policy Academy, conducts the annual comprehensive evaluation.
Hanam City’s success stems from its ability to present complex city governance news and policy information in an accessible and engaging manner, largely through the use of its official mascots, Hanam and Banguli. The city has effectively leveraged current online trends, notably “short-form” video content on Facebook, blending popular memes with policy promotion to resonate with a wider audience.
Beyond Facebook, Hanam City is maximizing its reach through a multi-platform strategy encompassing YouTube, Instagram, and KakaoTalk. On YouTube, the city successfully engaged younger demographics with content referencing popular internet trends like “Show Me the Mother.” Instagram saw a notable increase in followers thanks to compelling Reels videos. This tailored approach extended to KakaoTalk, where limited-edition Hanam and Banguli emoticons were quickly exhausted, resulting in over 82,000 channel friends.
The city consistently utilizes Hanam and Banguli in policy promotion, and its monthly “Damdadi” series – providing clear and accurate information on Hanam City’s policies directly from city officials – has proven highly popular with residents.
“Social media is now vital for the rapid dissemination of real-time information,” stated Sang-ho Chae, Hanam City’s public information officer. “We recognize the need to further expand our presence and capabilities in this area and remain committed to providing citizens with timely and accurate updates on all city news and information.”
