in a move anticipated since March 2024, Ubisoft and Tencent have officially launched Vantage Studios today, marking a notable step in the evolution of Ubisoft’s progress strategy. The new studio, initially referred to internally as Studio VANTAGEAGE, will concentrate on the development of some of Ubisoft’s most prominent franchises.
New Leadership and Franchise Focus
Vantage Studios will be led by Charlie Guillemot, son of Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot, and Christophe Derennes. The studio’s primary duty will be overseeing the development of three of Ubisoft’s largest franchises: Assassin’s Creed, Far Cry, and Rainbow Six. Existing Ubisoft teams, including those in Quebec, will be integrated into the new Vantage Studios structure.
tencent’s Role and Ubisoft’s Ownership
Despite Tencent holding a 25% stake in the subsidiary, Ubisoft will retain full ownership of the three key franchises and Vantage Studios itself. Tencent’s involvement will primarily be in an advisory capacity, providing strategic guidance.
Strategic Shift for Ubisoft
The creation of Vantage Studios allows Ubisoft to strategically refocus its resources on other established franchises such as Ghost Recon, The Division, and Rayman, as well as the development of entirely new intellectual properties (IPs).
