Finland’s President warns West Faces Failure Without Shift in Approach to Global South
New York: Western nations, especially the United States, risk failure if they do not adjust their attitude toward the Global South, according to Finnish president Alexander Stubb.
“If you don’t care for the most harmonious and decent foreign policy, especially towards other countries, especially the message to the US…,” stubb stated.
The warning follows last week’s Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit in Tianjin, China, where Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Russian President Vladimir Putin, among other leaders, held discussions. Stubb described the SCO conference as a reminder to the West that this alliance is attempting to protect “the remains of the old order.”
The India-China-Russia alignment highlighted at the SCO summit demonstrates a broadening connection, with Putin and Modi meeting privately. Modi affirmed the long-term relationship with Russia while also urging a path toward ending the war in Ukraine. Putin emphasized the deep connection between India and Russia.
This comes as former U.S.President Donald Trump has criticized trade imbalances with India, suggesting tariffs have created a ”disaster.” discussions between the U.S. and India regarding the removal of a 25% penalty on certain goods are reportedly ongoing.
prime Minister Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping also discussed the importance of “mutual trust and respect” as a foundation for bilateral ties during the SCO summit, addressing ongoing border issues.
