US Military Destroys Venezuelan Vessel allegedly carrying Drugs
On Friday, the US military engaged with a Venezuelan vessel in international waters, resulting in its destruction. US secretary of Defense Pete hegseth announced the incident on X (formerly Twitter), stating that four individuals were killed. This marks the fourth such action by the US military in recent weeks.
A video released by HegSeth depicts a small motor ship sailing on the sea, which subsequently explodes and catches fire following the intervention.
According to Secretary HegSeth, the vessel was carrying a significant quantity of drugs destined for the United States, intended to ”poison our people.” He asserted that intelligence confirmed the ship was involved in drug smuggling and crewed by “narcoterrorists,” adding that similar actions would continue “until the attacks on Americans are over.”
The incident occurs amidst escalating tensions between the US and Venezuela regarding drug trafficking. The US has deployed warships off the Venezuelan coast to disrupt drug smuggling operations, alleging the involvement of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro’s government.
Maduro, however, contends that the US is preparing for military aggression and a regime change in Venezuela. He also refutes accusations that his government is not adequately combating drug smuggling.
