Zelenskyy Warns World Entering ‘Most Destructive Arms Race in Human History’
NEW YORK – Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy delivered a stark warning today, asserting the world is currently experiencing “the most destructive arms race in human history,” driven by the rapid evolution of drone technology and the integration of artificial intelligence. Addressing an undisclosed forum, Zelenskyy highlighted the proliferation of drone expertise – noting “tens of thousands of people” now possess the skills for lethal drone operation – and the increasing accessibility of advanced weaponry, citing North korea’s recent test of a “tactical drone.”
Zelenskyy emphasized the urgency of establishing global regulations for the use of AI in weapons, comparing the need to preventing the spread of nuclear arms. He argued that halting Russian aggression is a more cost-effective solution than continually reacting to escalating threats, such as protecting critical infrastructure from drone attacks and constructing fortified civilian facilities,as Ukraine has been forced to do.
“Stopping Russia now is cheaper than wondering who will be the first to create a simple drone carrying a nuclear warhead,” Zelenskyy stated.
The Ukrainian leader underscored his country’s own advancements in drone technology, revealing Ukraine is producing drones capable of flying 2,000 to 3,000 kilometers and deploying them against Russian targets. He also announced Ukraine is opening up arms exports, offering “powerful systems tested in a real war” to a coalition of over 30 countries.
Zelenskyy also expressed concern over the vulnerability of neighboring Moldova to Russian interference, urging European support to prevent its descent into dependency like Georgia and belarus. He stressed Moldova requires financial and energy assistance, not merely “political gestures.”
