UK-EU Relations: New Pact & Defense Cooperation | International

The United Kingdom and the European Union are embarking on a new era in their relationship, five years after Brexit. Keir Starmer’s Labor government is signaling a clear approach toward Brussels, with negotiations underway on ambitious topics such as defense, fishing, customs controls, and youth mobility between the continent and the island. The current international landscape, marked by the war in Ukraine, rising irregular migration, and uncertainty surrounding the United States’ commitment to NATO, is compelling both parties to smooth over past disagreements.

This initiative is a product of the Art Canal and is disseminated in ten languages through the EMOVE Hub project. This project includes not only El País but also Balkan Insight,Synopsis (Romania),Gazeta Wyborcza (Poland),L’Internazionale (italy),Ir (Latvia),Kathimerini (Greece),De Morgen (Belgium),and Telex (Hungary). The media outlets participating in this project receive funding from the European Union, in line with the European Media Hubs call. This initiative is managed by the Directorate-General for Interaction, Content, and Technology Networks (DG Connect) and is part of the multimedia actions of the twenty-seven member states.
