Ukraine Deploys Special Forces to pokrovsk Amid Intensified Russian Offensive
Pokrovsk, Ukraine – Ukrainian forces have deployed special forces to the eastern city of Pokrovsk as Russia intensifies its offensive with a force estimated in the thousands. The move comes as Pokrovsk, a key logistical hub in the Donetsk region, faces mounting pressure from Russian troops who have infiltrated the city’s center and are attempting a pincer movement around its outskirts.
The battle for Pokrovsk is strategically significant, as the city sits on a primary supply route for the Ukrainian army and would represent a substantial propaganda victory for the Kremlin if captured. Russia has continued its ground offensive despite calls from the United States to halt its nearly four-year invasion of Ukraine.
Ukrainian Commander-in-Chief Oleksandr syrsky announced on facebook that a “comprehensive operation to destroy and expel enemy forces from pokrovsk is underway,” and that joint groups of Special Operations Forces are actively operating within the city.
While syrsky acknowledged the city is under pressure from “an enemy group thousands strong,” he refuted claims of a complete blockade of the logistics center, stating, “We are doing everything to provide logistics.”
Reports circulating on social media include video footage purportedly showing a helicopter flying over Pokrovsk and another, allegedly captured by a Russian drone, depicting individuals evacuating from a helicopter landing in a field. Special Operations Forces are trained for covert operations, often employing unconventional warfare tactics like sabotage and diversion.
