Irvington Community Gathers to Support Store and Family After Fatal Shooting
INDIANAPOLIS – The Irvington neighborhood is uniting in grief and support following the fatal shooting of Terri Heady, an employee at Josephine’s boutique clothing store, on Friday, Dec.5, 2025. Residents and businesses are organizing fundraising efforts and a candlelight vigil to aid Heady’s family and provide assistance to the store.
The tragedy has deeply impacted the close-knit Irvington community, prompting an outpouring of support on social media and a swift response from local businesses. The incident underscores the vulnerability of small businesses and the profound loss felt when violence strikes a community, particularly during the holiday season.
Following news of the shooting, many Irvington residents took to social media to ask how they could help the store owners and Heady’s family, according to community members. Hampton & Co., a home goods business on East Washington Street, announced it will host a candlelight vigil at 7 p.m. at 5515 East Washington Street, Suite A.
The vigil will coincide with the community’s annual holiday open house, initially intended to encourage shopping at locally owned businesses. Now, Irvington businesses plan to use the event to raise funds for Heady’s family and funeral expenses.
“I can’t tell anyone of you to stay strong & I can’t provide any encouraging words. I am just filled with sadness, anger and fear. When a tragedy like this occurs, we are NOT ALONE, however, as the entire community is impacted by such a tremendous loss,” the owners of Hampton & Co. shared on social media.
Those wishing to contribute can find more data at Hampton & Co. and details about the vigil location at this link. Further information about the holiday open house can be found on Facebook.
