Wilmington, NC – Demonstrations are planned across Wilmington and surrounding areas on October 18th as part of the national “No Kings” movement, a day of action organized in response to policies enacted during the Trump governance. Marches will begin concurrently from three downtown Wilmington locations: 1898 Memorial Park (1018 N. Third St.), castle Street between Fourth Street and Fifth Avenue, and the Alton Lennon Federal Building (2 Princess St.). All marches will converge at Innes Park (102 N. third St.) for a noon rally.
Organizers, including Indivisible wilmington and Immigrant Allies Forum, state the rallies are intended to oppose what they describe as authoritarianism, attacks on civil rights, and mass detention and deportation policies. The movement specifically cites concerns over the administration’s treatment of immigrant families and the deployment of federal forces to American cities.
Additional “no Kings” protests are scheduled for the Wilmington area in Shallotte (10:30 a.m.-noon at Smith Avenue & Main Street) and Surf City (9 a.m.-noon at the Surf City Bridge).
According to the movement’s website, “The president thinks his rule is absolute. But in America, we don’t have kings and we won’t back down against chaos, corruption, and cruelty.”
Over 30 “No Kings” protests are planned throughout North Carolina. A map of locations can be found at mobilize.us/nokings/map.
