MTN South Africa Launches Largest Telecom Cloud Implementation in MEA
JOHANNESBURG – MTN South Africa has completed migrating its “Value Analytics” (EVA) platform to Microsoft Azure cloud infrastructure, a project the operator claims is “the largest cloud implementation to date in the telecom sector in the Middle East and africa.” The move is expected to enhance data analysis agility,accelerate incident response,and enable increased personalization of services for MTN’s customer base.
EVA 3.0, built on Azure Databricks and secured by Microsoft Defender, now processes over 22 billion records daily, supports more than 800 analytical workflows, and integrates approximately 1,700 data streams. The deployment is part of a strategic partnership with microsoft established in 2022, managed internally thru Project Nephos and its Cloud Center of Excellence.
“With EVA 3.0, we analyze data faster, apply intelligence more effectively, and protect it with advanced cloud security,” said Nikos Angelopoulos, MTN Group IT Director. “Together with Microsoft, we have built a resilient platform that supports responsible AI and allows us to continue to meet the evolving needs of our customers.”
MTN reports delivering more than 1,350 Azure certifications to its teams in 2025, highlighting a focus on upskilling. The South Africa deployment will serve as a blueprint for MTN’s expansion across other African markets, aiming to solidify the company’s position as a leading technology provider on the continent.
