Jennifer Love Hewitt has finally addressed long-standing rumors about a relationship wiht her “I Know What You Did Last Summer” co-star, Sarah Michelle Gellar. In a recent interview with Vulture, the 46-year-old actress stated that she hasn’t spoken to Gellar since she was 18 years old.
This means that for nearly three decades, the two actresses had no contact, let alone collaborated on projects, until their recent appearance in the latest installment of the horror film franchise, which was released last Friday.
Hewitt expressed her confusion about the origin of these rumors, saying, “I honestly don’t know where it originally came from. I’m also confused why suddenly there is a noise or what.” She speculated that perhaps people are uncomfortable with narratives about women’s relationships that deviate from typical expectations.
In the original 1997 film, Hewitt portrayed Julie James, the protagonist who survives the terrifying events, while Gellar played Helen Shivers, a beauty queen who meets a tragic end.
Despite their shared involvement in the new film, their reunion was not marked by public displays of affection. Hewitt reiterated, “I didn’t find it at all. Literally, I’ve never talked with him again as the age of 18.” She added,”So when people start telling me ‘replied!’ or ‘Explain!’,I’m confused.”
While Hewitt maintains that she is unbothered by the situation, the lack of interaction between the two has fueled speculation among netizens. One instance that raised eyebrows was when Sarah Michelle Gellar was interviewed about Jennifer’s return for the sequel. Her response was brief, stating, “I’m not involved there,” before ending the interview.
Gellar later clarified this on Instagram Stories, explaining that she was hesitant to comment due to a non-disclosure agreement. she humorously advised young actors to be mindful of their reactions when meeting old friends, especially if they are still under contract.
Further fueling the speculation, Gellar posted the trailer for her new film, tagging most of the cast and crew but notably omitting Jennifer. However, it was later revealed that jennifer’s Instagram account had tagging limitations enabled, preventing her from being tagged.Despite these occurrences, the article suggests that the actresses are not enemies, but rather simply haven’t communicated. Gellar also mentioned that she missed the premiere’s red carpet because she was inside the building with her children.
“Regrettably Jlh did not come to after party. I also didn’t have time to take a photo with many other casts. But that didn’t reduce my admiration for all of them,” Sarah wrote on Instagram.
