SANTIAGO – Chilean citizens have expanded travel options thanks to reciprocal agreements allowing entry into several countries with only a national identity card, foregoing the need for a passport. This ease of travel is especially relevant as peak travel seasons approach.
The ability to travel with just an ID card simplifies travel for Chileans, reducing costs and logistical hurdles. Furthermore, the Chilean passport itself enjoys a strong international reputation, providing visa-free access to over 170 countries – a testament to Chile‘s global standing. This combination of options offers Chilean travelers notable versatility.
Currently, Chilean nationals can travel to eight South American nations – argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, Uruguay, and Paraguay – using only their national identity card, according to the Chilean Ministry of Foreign Affairs. This policy streamlines travel for tourism, business, and family visits within the region.
While these eight countries offer simplified entry, it’s vital to note that other destinations in South America, such as Venezuela, still require a valid passport for Chilean citizens. Travelers are advised to verify entry requirements with the relevant embassy or consulate before their trip to avoid potential issues.
