Türkiye to Participate in Ceasefire Oversight Task Force for Gaza
Jakarta – Türkiye will join an international “task force” to monitor the implementation of the ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas,President Recep Tayyip erdogan announced Thursday.
“We hope to join the task force that will monitor the implementation of the agreement on the ground,” Erdogan stated, according to reports from AFP.
Erdogan emphasized the critical need for immediate humanitarian aid delivery to Gaza, the exchange of hostages and prisoners, and a cessation of Israeli attacks. “It is very important for the immediate delivery of thorough humanitarian aid to Gaza, the exchange of hostages and prisoners, and for Israel to promptly stop its attacks,” he said.
Türkiye actively participated in negotiations leading to the agreement, dispatching a team to talks held in Sharm el-Sheikh, Egypt. The country also intends to collaborate with the international community on reconstruction efforts for Gaza.
“Our goal is to stop the genocide in Gaza and bring peace to the region as quickly as possible,” Erdogan affirmed.
the agreement, announced by U.S. President Donald Trump, outlines a phased approach including the release of all prisoners, Israeli troop withdrawal to agreed-upon lines, and the entry of aid into Gaza. Trump stated all parties would be treated fairly and acknowledged the mediation efforts of Qatar, Egypt, and Türkiye.
