Western Components Found in Russian Weapons Following Deadly Attacks on ukraine
Kyiv, Ukraine – October 6, 2025, 1:52 p.m. – Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has accused Western manufacturers adn countries of inadvertently supplying Russia with over 100,000 components used in drones and missiles deployed in recent attacks that left at least five people dead. Zelenskyy detailed the findings following a massive aerial assault on Sunday night, alleging the presence of foreign-made parts within the weaponry.
The discovery raises critical questions about the effectiveness of existing export controls and sanctions aimed at hindering Russia’s military capabilities. Zelenskyy identified a dozen countries, including the united States and Germany, as failing to adequately prevent the flow of these components, which he says included converters, sensors, and microcomputers. He specifically cited Swiss-made microcontrollers for unmanned aircraft and British-produced microcomputers for drone flight control.
According to Zelenskyy, Sunday’s attacks involved 549 weapon systems containing 102,785 components manufactured abroad. He named China, Taiwan, Great Britain, Switzerland, Japan, South Korea, and the Netherlands among the nations whose products were identified.
The attacks, which utilized 496 drones, 51 cruise missiles, and 2 rockets, resulted in five fatalities, including a family of four, and dozens of injuries. Extensive power outages were reported in regions including Lviv.
Zelenskyy stated Kyiv has submitted proposals for restricting supply chains and announced plans for new sanctions targeting the manufacturers of these components. “Our partners already have detailed data on every company and every product – you know what to aim at and how to react,” he saeid.
