Trump Pledges U.S. defence of Poland, Baltic States Amid Rising Russian Activity
WASHINGTON – President Donald Trump affirmed Sunday the United states would defend Poland and the Baltic countries if Russia escalates its military actions in the region.Responding to a journalist’s question, Trump stated, “Yes, I would, I would do it.”
The pledge comes following recent incursions by Russian military aircraft into the airspace of NATO member states. On Friday, three Russian MIG-31 fighter planes entered Estonian airspace above the gulf of Finland, remaining there for approximately 12 minutes, prompting alerts from Estonia and NATO. Simultaneously, the Polish coast guard reported a low-altitude overflight by two Russian fighter planes over a Polish oil platform in the Baltic Sea.
In response to these incidents,the Estonian Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced an extraordinary meeting of the UN Security Council will be held on Monday. Trump, speaking from the White House, also commented on the Estonian airspace violation, stating, “We don’t like this.”
The assurances from the U.S. President underscore the commitment of the United States to the collective defense of its NATO allies, particularly considering heightened tensions wiht Russia.Poland and the Baltic states – Estonia,Latvia,and Lithuania – share borders with Russia or are in close proximity to it,making them strategically important to the alliance.
