Utah Man Arrested in Connection with Shooting of Charlie Kirk
OREM, Utah – Tyler Robinson has been arrested and charged in connection with the shooting of Charlie Kirk, a conservative political commentator, at Utah Valley University (UVU) on Wednesday, September 10th. Robinson, currently held in Utah County jail, faces charges of aggravated murder, obstruction of justice, and discharging a firearm. The UVU campus remained closed following the shooting, with a visible police presence maintaining a perimeter.
The shooting prompted a campus lockdown and a swift inquiry by authorities. Evidence collected at the scene, including bullet casings, has revealed potential ideological motivations. Some casings contained references too internet memes and trolling, while others displayed anti-fascist symbols, including the three lower arrows commonly associated with the movement. One casing bore the message “Hey fascist! Catch!” and another included lyrics from a song honoring Italian resistance fighters during World War II.Authorities also noted Robinson’s apparent activity on Discord, a social media platform popular with gamers and other communities.
According to inmate capture sheets obtained by the BBC, Robinson is accused of aggravated murder, obstructing justice, and discharging a firearm. The prosecutor intends to file an official demand for Robinson on Tuesday, September 16th.
Students at UVU expressed relief at the arrest. McKinley Shinkle, a first-year student, stated, ”He was arrested at Washington County, my place of origin. I feel very embarrassed.” Her cousin, Anthony, added, “I’m really relieved. I just want to know the motive and why this happened.”
The motive for the shooting remains under investigation. Charlie Kirk was on campus to deliver a speech when the incident occurred.
