Toyota Reports August Global Sales Increase of 2.2% Driven by US Demand
NAGOYA (Kyodo) – Toyota Motor Corp. announced Monday that its global vehicle sales rose 2.2% in August, marking the eighth consecutive month of gains, reaching a total of 844,963 units. The increase was largely fueled by strong sales in the United States and other key overseas markets.
Global production also climbed, increasing 4.9% too 744,176 vehicles – exceeding the previous year’s level for the third month in a row. This performance underscores Toyota’s continued position as the world’s largest automaker by volume.
Overseas sales reached a record high for the month of August, jumping 4.4% to 748,694 units. Notably, sales in the United States surged 13.6% to 225,367 units, demonstrating robust demand for Toyota’s hybrid vehicles despite tariffs imposed by the Trump governance.
sales in China saw a modest increase of 0.9% to 153,415 units, supported by government subsidies for environmentally-friendly vehicles and strong consumer interest in Toyota’s new electric vehicle models.
However, domestic sales in Japan experienced a 12.1% decline, totaling 96,269 units. This drop was attributed to production delays caused by output suspensions following tsunami warnings and advisories issued after a powerful earthquake near Russia’s Kamchatka Peninsula.
Production figures revealed a 19% increase in the united States, reaching 126,081 units, while production in China decreased by 8.2% to 125,383 units. Domestic production in japan rose 12% to 207,990 units, benefiting from a recovery following a certification scandal in the previous year.
