Peruvian Açaí exports Surge, Challenging Brazilian Dominance

lima, ⁣Peru – Exports of Peruvian açaí have skyrocketed in the first half of 2025, marking a significant increase and positioning⁤ the country ⁣as a growing force in the global açaí market traditionally dominated by Brazil.Data ‌from Adex ⁤reveals a significant‌ jump in both volume and value, signaling a boom for the Peruvian fruit.

While Brazil remains the world’s ⁤leading açaí producer – exceeding 90 tons in 2024 – Peru is rapidly gaining ground,‌ leveraging‍ a key differentiator: its‍ uniquely purple variety. Unlike the brown açaí common‍ in Brazil, Peruvian açaí, especially that⁣ from ‍the ⁢Madre de Dios region, boasts an intense purple pulp highly valued by both⁢ national and international consumers. this competitive advantage is ‍fueling the export surge.

According to Adex figures, Peru exported 163,806 kilos of⁢ açaí in the first ⁢six months of 2025, a dramatic increase compared to ⁢the 39,618‍ kilos⁢ exported during the same period in 2024. The financial impact is equally impressive, with exports‍ reaching US $555,134 in the first months of‍ this year, compared‍ to US⁤ $130,557 in 2024.

Currently, Chile, ‌the United States, and Australia are the primary⁣ destinations for ‌Peruvian ⁢açaí. ⁢This growth reflects increasing global demand for the superfruit and Peru’s ability to capitalize on its unique product‌ offering.
