Outer Worlds Director Reacts to Price Hike
Obsidian Entertainment clarifies its stance on the new price point.
The Outer Worlds’ director, Brandon Adler, has addressed fan concerns after the game’s price was revealed. The $79.99 cost has sparked debate, leading to an official response from the studio.
Pricing Concerns Emerge
After the Xbox Showcase displayed fresh images of the sci-fi shooter The Outer Worlds, the discussion mainly centered on its cost. The game now carries a price tag of €79.99. Consequently, director Brandon Adler is clarifying that the studio is not responsible for the pricing.
The new price is hardly surprising, given Microsoft’s announcement in May that its first-party games would cost €80 starting in the fall. It is becoming the standard, and Nintendo has also adopted this pricing strategy. It appears that 2K Games will do the same with Borderlands 4.
Notably, The Outer Worlds’ director, Brandon Adler, wishes to remind players that Obsidian Entertainment, as a studio, has nothing to do with the price increase. For instance, he noted that, We are a studio, who likes to make games and does not stick prizes on those games
.
“I would personally want everyone to play their game because that is the starting point.”

In an interview, Adler also called on players to direct their questions and comments about the €79.99 price to Xbox and Microsoft. According to a recent report, video game sales in the U.S. have decreased by 3% year-over-year (Statista 2024).
A Personal Statement
Adler made his statement even more personal. In an interview with Gamesradar, he said that he, would personally want everyone to play their game because that is the starting point.
Adler added that players should direct their questions about the €79.99 price to the people at Xbox and Microsoft.
Gamesradar observed that Adler did his best not to make the message personal, but it was ultimately clear.
