Russia Issues Direct Threat to US Amid Tomahawk Missile Debate for Ukraine
MOSCOW - A Russian lawmaker issued a direct threat to the United States on Tuesday, responding to discussions about potentially supplying Ukraine with long-range Tomahawk cruise missiles. The warning from Andrey kartapolov, a member of the Russian State Duma, came as former President Donald Trump signaled he was considering Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky’s request for the advanced weaponry.
Kartapolov claimed the Tomahawks, which experts say possess the capability to strike deep inside Russia adn ”decimate military and oil facilities,” would not alter the course of the war. “We know these missiles very well, how they fly, how to shoot them down; we worked with them in Syria, so there is nothing new,” he stated. Though, he added a stark warning: “The only problems will be for those who supply them and those who use them; that’s were the problems will be.”
Moscow’s threat follows reports that even a limited shipment of Tomahawk missiles would substantially alarm Russian officials. A senior congressional aide previously told the New York Post that sending “even a single Tomahawk to Ukraine would scare the s-t out of the Russians more than almost anything else we coudl do.”
Trump has expressed reservations about providing the missiles, stating he needs assurances regarding their intended use to avoid escalating the conflict. currently, the US is prepared to share intelligence with Ukraine to facilitate strikes on Russia’s energy sector, but a decision on supplying the Tomahawks remains pending.
Analysts suggest Ukraine would likely target Russian oil refineries, weapon depots, and transportation networks with the long-range missiles. Russia has repeatedly employed long-range weapons in attacks against Ukraine throughout the ongoing conflict.
