Russia Launches Drone Attacks, Polish Airspace Violated
Warsaw/Kyiv – Russia initiated a new wave of drone attacks Tuesday, extending into Polish airspace and prompting heightened alert levels in both countries. Ukrainian officials reported drones flying near the western Polish city of Zamość and at least one heading towards Rzeszów,though the total number entering Polish airspace remained initially unclear.
The incident follows a 2022 event where a stray Ukrainian rocket struck a Polish village, resulting in two fatalities, and has increased Poland‘s sensitivity to border security. The drone incursions occurred after hours of Russian air raids targeting areas west of Ukraine. While the Ukrainian Air Force initially reported the drones’ entry into Poland, the claim was later retracted.
In ukraine, air defenses were activated in Kyiv, and drones were observed flying westward towards the city of Lviv. A widespread air alarm was triggered across much of Ukraine, with military observers anticipating potential further attacks involving aircraft and sea-launched missiles. Reports indicated readiness for the deployment of strategic bombers and rockets.
Ukraine, defending against the Russian invasion for over three and a half years, continues to appeal to Western nations for strengthened air defence support. Kyiv authorities reported more than 20 civilian deaths Tuesday in an eastern Ukrainian attack, alleging a Russian aviation bomb struck a group awaiting pension payments, according to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy via Telegram.
