Muscat Sunni Centre Fareswell to Abu Dhabi-Bound Jamal Hamadani

March 24, 2026 Alex Carter - Sports Editor Sport

Muscat – A farewell event was held in Muscat for Jamal Hamadani, the convener of Al Bir School at the Muscat Sunni Centre, as he prepares to travel to Abu Dhabi for employment.

The event, organized by the Muscat Sunni Centre (SIC Muscat), was attended by Abbas Faisi, Abdul Ghafoor Haji, Shajudheen Bashir Haji, Azeez Haji, Moosa Haji, Safeer, Mohammed B, Hashim Faisi, Ameer, Shabir Jalal, Fazal, and Zakir Hussain Faisi. Anwar Haji, the president of SIC Muscat, presided over the gathering. Rias Melattur, the secretary, extended a welcome address, and Shabir Annara delivered the vote of thanks.

The departure of Hamadani coincides with broader shifts in employment patterns for Omani nationals, with increasing numbers seeking opportunities in the United Arab Emirates, particularly in Abu Dhabi, driven by economic diversification and growth in the UAE’s job market. While specific details regarding Hamadani’s new role in Abu Dhabi were not disclosed, the event highlights the interconnectedness of the labor markets within the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) region.

The Muscat Sunni Centre, a key community organization, plays a significant role in supporting and facilitating the needs of the Sunni Muslim community in Oman. The farewell event underscores the center’s commitment to its members and their professional development. The presence of prominent figures within the community, including several individuals bearing the title “Haji,” suggests a strong network of support for Hamadani as he embarks on this new chapter.

Recent reports indicate a trend of senior editorial staff facing cutbacks, as reported by Press Gazette [4], though this does not directly relate to the event, it reflects a wider pattern of organizational changes occurring across various sectors. Similarly, discussions surrounding standards in news organizations, as highlighted by the New York Post [2], are separate from the immediate context of Hamadani’s departure but represent ongoing conversations about professional integrity, and accountability.
