The incident occurred near the A. Alfred Taubman ‌Health Sciences Library, ​prompting a significant police presence and ‌a temporary shelter-in-place order for the immediate area.

DPSS initially alerted the public to the situation via Twitter at 7:38‌ p.m. on September 18, 2025, urging ⁣individuals to call 911. A subsequent update at ‍8:33 p.m.​ requested continued avoidance of the⁢ location as⁤ officers ⁣cleared the surrounding area.
