Apple’s MacBook Pro Set for Major Redesign with Touchscreen, OLED Display
CUPERTINO, CA – September 21, 2025 – Apple is planning a important overhaul of the MacBook Pro, adding touchscreen capabilities and an OLED display, according to the latest reporting from Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman. The updates, long rumored, were initially slated for a late 2025 release but have been slightly delayed due to OLED supply constraints.
For years, Apple resisted incorporating touchscreens into it’s Mac lineup, opting instead for features like the Touch Bar - a decision reversed in 2021. This shift marks a major departure for the company, bringing the MacBook Pro in line with many Windows laptops that already feature touchscreen technology. gurman reports the new models, codenamed K114 and K116, will also boast a lighter, thinner frame and reinforced hinges designed to stabilize the display during touchscreen use.
Beyond the touchscreen and OLED display, the redesigned MacBook Pro is expected to include an upgraded front-facing camera featuring a hole-punch design similar to the iPhone’s Dynamic Island. The new laptops will be powered by Apple’s M6 series processors. Updates to the MacBook Air, Mac Studio, Mac Mini, and Apple’s displays are also in development.
However, these advancements are expected to come at a cost. Gurman indicates the new MacBook Pros will likely see a price increase of “a few hundred dollars,” and the upgrades are not expected to initially extend to Apple’s more affordable laptop models. Further down the line, Apple is also exploring a transition from Touch ID fingerprint scanning to face ID authentication, though that feature remains several years away.
