Ukraine-U.S.Talks Set for Miami Amidst Warnings of putin’s Expansionist Goals
MIAMI, FL – High-level discussions between Ukrainian and American officials are scheduled to resume this Friday in Miami, as concerns mount over Russian President Vladimir Putin‘s long-term ambitions in Eastern Europe. The meetings come as former world chess champion Garry Kasparov warns the West that Putin seeks not merely the restoration of a Soviet-style empire, but “revenge against the West, for the defeat of the cold War.”
Kasparov’s assessment, delivered in a recent interview with Le Figaro, highlights a perceived vulnerability within European democracies, citing the rise of political factions sympathetic to the Kremlin. He specifically pointed to the AfD in Germany, the RN in France, and figures like Nigel Farage in the United Kingdom, suggesting that their potential ascent to power could lead to a swift end to support for Ukraine. “In three of the biggest European countries, three major parties, if they came to power, would stop the war right away and hand over Ukraine to Putin’s Russia,” Kasparov stated.
The chess grandmaster advocates for a more assertive deterrent strategy, proposing measures such as deploying nuclear missiles in Poland capable of reaching Moscow within ten minutes. He also called for a “drastic tightening of sanctions” and a complete cessation of trade with Russia, accusing Putin of leveraging economic ties to destabilize Western nations and influence political outcomes. “We must stop trading with Putin, who is waging war on you by harassing your airports and buying political parties,” Kasparov emphasized.
The upcoming talks in Miami are expected to focus on continued military aid to Ukraine, strategies for bolstering its defense capabilities, and coordinating international pressure on Russia. The discussions will be closely watched as a barometer of ongoing U.S. commitment to Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity in the face of escalating geopolitical tensions.
