iOS 27 Compatible iPhones: Full List of Supported Models and AI Features
Apple will release iOS 27 to the public in September 2026, bringing a redesigned Siri powered by artificial intelligence, though device compatibility is split across three distinct tiers depending on hardware capability. According to Apple, the software update maintains support for devices ranging from the iPhone 11 up to the newly introduced iPhone 17 series, while older hardware like the iPhone XS and iPhone XR are left off the compatibility list entirely.
### Device Compatibility Tiers for iOS 27
Apple confirmed the complete hardware lineup during its Worldwide Developers Conference at Apple Park in Cupertino, California, dividing functionality into separate performance tiers. Devices must feature at least an A13 Bionic chip to run the base operating system, meaning the iPhone 11, iPhone 12, iPhone 13, iPhone 14, iPhone 15, iPhone 16, and iPhone 17 lines—including the iPhone SE second and third generations—will receive the update.
However, full access to Apple Intelligence features requires significantly more processing power. According to company disclosures, only devices equipped with an A17 Pro chip or newer, along with 8 gigabytes of RAM such as the iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max, and subsequent models, can run the complete suite of AI tools. Standard models from the iPhone 11 through the base iPhone 15 will receive iOS 27 without the built-in artificial intelligence capabilities. Furthermore, advanced on-device language model features for Siri are strictly reserved for the iPhone Air, the iPhone 17 Pro, and devices utilizing an M4 chip or later.
### Rollout Schedule and Regulatory Hurdles in Europe
The deployment timeline begins with a developer beta launched on June 8, followed by a free public beta slated for July on the company’s testing portal, ahead of the official September public release.
Regional availability remains restricted due to regulatory enforcement. According to Apple vice president of software engineering Craig Federighi, the new AI-powered Siri will not launch in the European Union alongside the rest of the software package due to compliance requirements under the Digital Markets Act.
“We are deeply disappointed that our users in the EU won’t have Siri AI on the iPhone or iPad when we launch our new software versions later than this year,” Federighi stated during the WWDC keynote, noting that the firm aims to collaborate with European regulators to establish a compliant pathway for future deployment.
