iOS 26 Users Report discomfort from New ‘Glasy’ icons, Prompt Downgrades
Following its release last Monday, Apple’s iOS 26 is prompting some users to revert to older versions of the operating system due to discomfort caused by the new, highly glossy icon design. Reports indicate the increased reflectivity of the icons is causing eye strain and headaches for a segment of the user base.
Apple provides instructions for downgrading from beta versions of iOS, accessible here. The process requires a Mac or PC, a backup of the device, and a compatible IPSW file - currently still offered by Apple and available here. The downgrade is performed through Finder on macOS or the Apple Devices app on windows.
