Government Announces Travel Discounts for Year-End Holidays
Jakarta – The Indonesian government will offer discounts on transportation – including flights, trains, ships, and ferries – during the Christmas and New year (Nataru) holiday period as part of an economic stimulus package. The decision was made during a limited coordination meeting at the Coordinating Ministry for the Economy on October 1, 2025.
Discounts will be available from December 2025 through January 2026, aiming to boost domestic tourism and ease travel costs for citizens. The Ministry of Transportation has published a detailed schedule on its official Instagram account, @kemenhub151.
Here’s a breakdown of the planned discounts:
1. Flights: Discounts will apply to tickets purchased between October 22,2025,and January 10,2026,for travel between December 22,2025,and January 10,2026.The government estimates this will benefit approximately 3,598,590 passengers with a 13-14% reduction in ticket prices. The discounts include the government covering 6% of the Value Added Tax (VAT) for economy class flights, a 2% fuel surcharge discount for jet aircraft, and a 20% discount for propeller aircraft. Additionally, Passenger Service Charges (PJP2U and PJP4U) will be reduced by 50%, and Aviation Turbine Fuel (Avtur) costs will be lowered by 10% at 37 airports.
2. Trains: Train discounts will be in effect from December 22, 2025, to January 10, 2026, offering savings of up to 30% on normal ticket prices. This stimulus is projected to assist 1,509,080 passengers.
3. Ships: Ship travel will see discounts from December 17, 2025, to January 10, 2026, with a 20% reduction on standard ticket prices. The government anticipates this will benefit 405,881 passengers.
4. Ferries: Ferry discounts will run from December 22, 2025, to January 10, 2026. The initiative includes waiving port fees for regular class passengers and downgrading executive class tickets to regular class fares.
