Liverpool Star Mohamed Salah Faced Police Inquiry After Filming himself Driving
Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah was previously investigated by Merseyside Police after footage emerged appearing too show him using his mobile phone while driving his £200,000 Mercedes. The incident, which occurred in May 2023, prompted a club investigation and a report to authorities following concerns raised by the player himself.
The resurfacing of the video comes amid renewed scrutiny of driver safety and mobile phone use behind the wheel.At the time, Liverpool FC confirmed they had discussed the incident with Salah and alerted Merseyside Police, dealing with the matter internally. The footage shows Salah appearing to operate his phone while stopped in traffic, and again while driving, with children nearby.
According to the video, Salah – wearing a red top – is seen looking at his phone screen. He then puts the phone down before driving off, but is caught up to by the person filming, who captures him holding the phone with both hands while at the wheel as children approach his car.
A Liverpool FC spokesman told the BBC: “The club, after discussion with the player, have made Merseyside Police aware of the footage and the circumstances surrounding it’s capture.”
Police confirmed the video was passed to the appropriate department for review. it is indeed currently unclear if any further action was taken following the investigation.
