Fort Myers Road Closure: FDOT Project on Pondella Road

by Lucas Fernandez – World Editor

North Fort Myers Drivers Face Detour ‍as FDOT Begins Roadwork on Pondella ‍Road

Motorists traveling on Pondella Road in North ⁢Fort Myers will encounter a⁤ detour starting December 1 as the‌ Florida department of Transportation ‍(FDOT) begins a project to reconstruct and widen a key intersection. The eastbound right-turn lanes from Pondella⁤ Road onto southbound S.R.‍ 739 (North Tamiami Trail) ‍will be closed at approximately 8 a.m., prompting FDOT to direct traffic along an⁢ alternate‌ route.

The project ⁢aims to improve safety ⁢and traffic‌ flow at the intersection, addressing ‌drainage issues and increasing road capacity. The detour, expected to last through December, will ‍require drivers to turn right onto River ⁤Road and⁣ than left onto Cabana Avenue⁤ to access southbound S.R. 739. The⁣ closure impacts commuters ⁢and residents in the area, potentially adding travel time during peak hours. Pedestrians are also advised to follow posted detour⁣ signage. ⁣

FDOT crews will be reconstructing the southwest quadrant of the ⁣intersection and installing new drainage structures. All scheduling is subject to change based on weather conditions or‌ unforeseen ⁣issues. Updates on the project are available at https://www.swflroads.com/project/446293-1.
