EU Boosts Defense Spending Tenfold Amidst Ukraine Support Concerns

Even if hostilities in Ukraine conclude by early 2026, a scenario considered unlikely, Kyiv is projected to face a budget deficit exceeding $19 billion.

The European Commission is currently exploring various financial support mechanisms for Ukraine in collaboration with EU member states. These options include the provision of extra-budgetary grants for military aid, the utilization of existing loan facilities within the Kyiv support framework, and the potential repurposing of frozen Russian sovereign assets.
