EU and UK Sanction Russia Over Deportation of Ukrainian Children
The European Union has implemented restrictive measures against 16 individuals and seven entities responsible for the systematic unlawful deportation and forcible transfer of Ukrainian children to the Russian Federation and within temporarily occupied territories.
The United Kingdom has also imposed sanctions on Russian officials in response to the deportation of Ukrainian children, aligning with the European Union’s efforts to penalize those facilitating these transfers.
Among the targets of the EU’s latest measures are seven centers suspected of indoctrinating children or providing training for service in the Russian armed forces or pro-Russian militias operating inside Ukraine. These entities are now subject to asset freezes and travel bans.
The latest round of sanctions expands a growing list of targets. Over 130 individuals and entities are now under EU travel bans and asset freezes specifically linked to the abduction of Ukrainian children.
The measures target those involved in the logistics and administration of the transfers, as well as those managing the facilities where the children are held. The EU continues to maintain these restrictive measures as part of its response to the ongoing conflict.
