Economist Emmanoel Schmidt Rondon Named President of Brazil‘s Post Office
Brasília – Emmanoel Schmidt Rondon has been appointed the new president of Brazil’s Post Office (Correios), approved by the company’s Board of Directors on Friday, July 19th. He is expected too assume the role on Monday, July 22nd, succeeding Fabiano Silva dos Santos, who resigned earlier in july adn concluded his tenure on Thursday, July 18th.
Schmidt Rondon takes leadership of the Post Office during a period of significant financial challenge. The company reported the largest deficit among Brazilian state-owned enterprises in 2024 and incurred a billion-real loss in the first half of the year.
Rondon brings 25 years of experiance in the financial market to the position. He holds a degree in Economics from the Fluminense Federal University (UFF) and completed business administration training at the Brazilian Capital Market Institute (IBMEC).
Prior to this appointment, schmidt Rondon served as Executive Manager at the Banco do Brasil Infrastructure, Supply and Heritage Directorate, and is a long-term employee of Banco do Brasil. He also previously acted as an advisor to previ, the Banco do Brasil employees’ Welfare Fund.
His nomination was supported by the Civil house, the ministry headed by Rui Costa, who advocated for Schmidt Rondon as a skilled technician capable of implementing necessary adjustments within the institution.
