Dillon Brooks Suffers Hand Injury During Suns’ Double Overtime Win vs. Magic
Phoenix Suns forward Dillon Brooks suffered a broken left hand during Saturday’s 113-110 double-overtime win against the Orlando Magic, the team confirmed. The injury occurred in the first quarter, forcing Brooks to exit the game with 4:46 remaining and not return.
Brooks had been enjoying a career year with the Suns, averaging a team-high 21.2 points per game prior to the injury, according to reports. He scored five points on 2-of-7 shooting before leaving the contest. Jalen Green’s buzzer-beating 3-pointer in the second overtime secured the victory for Phoenix (33-24) over Orlando (29-26).
The injury occurred after a jump shot contested by Magic big man Wendell Carter Jr., with contact appearing to be made with Brooks’ hand. A timetable for his return has not yet been determined, according to ESPN’s Shams Charania.
Ryan Dunn replaced Brooks in the starting lineup to begin the third quarter. The Suns were already dealing with injuries to key players, including Devin Booker, who is expected to be re-evaluated in a week with a right hip strain sustained in Thursday’s loss to the San Antonio Spurs. Jordan Goodwin also exited Saturday’s game with a calf injury with 3:47 left in the second half and will be re-evaluated, according to Suns coach Jordan Ott.
Prior to the All-Star break, Brooks had been suspended for one game against the Spurs on February 19 after receiving his 16th technical foul on February 11 against the Oklahoma City Thunder. The suspension came after a technical foul assessed during Phoenix’s game against the defending NBA champion Thunder.
Just weeks before the injury, Brooks had a career night on January 29, scoring 40 points in an upset victory over the Eastern Conference-leading Detroit Pistons.
