Las Vegas, NV – The College of Southern Nevada (CSN) is now offering a new certificate and degree program in Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning, responding to a rapidly growing job market. The program, which began this semester, is designed for both recent high school graduates and current college students, as well as those looking to upskill in the field.
“To make sure that the AI is relevant, obviously we all know that AI is very relevant these days,” said Naser Heravi, a professor and chair at CSN.
The program allows students to earn a one- or two-year certificate or degree, with options to transfer credits to four-year universities. CSN is also developing a two-year Associate of Science degree in AI and Machine Learning.
The curriculum focuses on key skills including prompt engineering, machine learning, computer vision, and natural language processing. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, AI-focused positions, such as researchers and scientists, currently average $140,000 annually.
Investment bank Goldman Sachs estimates that AI could impact 300 million jobs involving data processing or information gathering, highlighting the need for a skilled workforce.
“We’re going to need…high-skilled people who can do the critical thinking that AI really can’t do-that innovation and creating that AI can’t do,” Heravi explained.
the cost of the CSN certificate or degree is $4,000, with financial aid available. CSN joins at least a dozen other colleges and universities now offering formal AI majors.
