Charlie Kirk, Prominent Conservative Figure, Dies After Shooting in Utah
Charlie kirk, the founder and head of Turning Point USA, a leading conservative youth organization, has died after being shot in the neck at an event held at the University of Utah.The shooting occurred Wednesday, prompting a swift response from law enforcement and widespread reaction from political figures.
According to reports, the incident took place near the Losee Center, approximately 200 yards from the event location.Witnesses stated Mr. Kirk’s security personnel removed him from the scene promptly following the shooting.
Police initially took a person into custody,but a university spokesperson later confirmed that individual was not the shooter. The investigation is ongoing.
News of mr. Kirk’s death prompted condolences and statements from across the political spectrum. US Vice-President JD vance stated, “Eternal rest grant unto him, O Lord.” Former US President Joe biden said, “There is no place in our country for this kind of violence. It must end now. Jill and I are praying for Charlie Kirk’s family and loved ones.”
International reaction included a statement from Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who described Mr. Kirk as “a lion-hearted friend of Israel” and lamented the loss of “an incredible human being.” British Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper expressed shock at the killing, stating, “Political violence has no place in our societies.”
Figures closer to mr. kirk also shared their grief.Donald Trump Jr.wrote, “I love you brother. You gave so many people the courage to speak up and we will not ever be silenced.” US Senator Mike Lee of Utah called the murder “a fearful act of violence” and vowed, “The terrorists will not win. Charlie will.”
Turning Point USA spokesperson Andrew Kolvet confirmed Mr.Kirk sustained a gunshot wound to the neck. videos circulating online depict the moments following the shooting, showing attendees running and Mr. Kirk appearing to react to the shot before falling from his chair.
Prior to the confirmation of his death, Donald Trump posted on his social media platform, Truth Social, urging prayers for Mr. kirk, calling him “a great guy from top to bottom.” FBI Director Kash Patel also expressed his thoughts, stating they were with Mr. Kirk, his loved ones, and those affected.
Mr. Kirk, who co-founded Turning Point USA in 2012, rose to prominence as a key voice in conservative circles and a close ally of Donald Trump. He frequently hosted rallies on collage campuses, and even outside of formal administration roles, exerted influence within the White House, including assisting with vetting potential appointees after the November election.
