Canon Announces EOS R6 Mark III with 32.5MP Sensor⁢ adn Enhanced video Capabilities

tokyo, ‍Japan – November‍ 23, 2023 – Canon today unveiled the EOS R6 Mark III full-frame mirrorless camera, featuring⁢ a new 32.5-megapixel sensor and notable ⁤video upgrades. The R6 Mark III⁢ aims to bridge the gap between the more professional EOS R5 Mark II and entry-level users, offering a balance of performance and price.

The new camera represents a resolution increase from the 24-megapixel sensor in the previous generation R6 model. Video capabilities have also been substantially improved, now ‌supporting⁢ 4K recording at 120p ‌and 7K RAW footage at 60p, with full corner-to-corner open gate filming for increased cropping flexibility. Canon has also expanded gamma⁢ settings with the inclusion‍ of Log 2 mode and custom looks.

Several features cater specifically to video shooters, ‌including a visible tally lamp and a transition from a Micro HDMI port to a full-size Type A HDMI. The⁣ autofocus system has been updated to allow users to register and prioritize⁤ specific faces for continuous‌ tracking.

The EOS R6 Mark III incorporates a change to⁣ its card slots, moving from dual SD card slots to an ⁢asymmetrical configuration with one CFexpress Type⁣ B and one SD card slot. While ‌CFexpress Type B cards offer faster speeds-contributing to the camera’s ability to capture longer⁤ bursts of images at 12 fps (mechanical shutter) or 40 fps‍ (electronic shutter) even at ⁣the higher resolution-they are typically more⁢ expensive than SD cards.Unlike some competitors, Canon’s⁢ Type B slot does not ⁣support SD⁤ cards.

Alongside the camera, Canon announced the RF 45mm f/1.2 STM lens. This compact prime lens boasts a bright maximum‍ aperture and is priced at $469.99, making it considerably more⁣ affordable than comparable full-frame f/1.2 lenses, which often exceed $1,500. However, the RF 45mm f/1.2 STM is not weather sealed and requires a separately purchased lens hood ($59.99). Canon USA‍ representative drew MacCallum noted ‌the lens relies on in-camera corrections ‍to achieve its image rendering and maintain its lower cost, suggesting it may not appeal to users demanding the highest⁤ level of image detail.
