Billboard: Industry Execs Call Singapore F1 Asia's Premier Music Fest

Billboard: Industry Execs Call Singapore F1 Asia’s Premier Music Fest

October 29, 2026 Alex Carter - Sports Editor Sport

Max Verstappen secured a pole-to-checkered flag victory at the Formula 1 Singapore Airlines Singapore Grand Prix, conquering the Marina Bay Street Circuit for a race that had eluded him for a decade during the October 9–11 weekend. Billboard reported that alongside the racing action, the event drew 301,294 spectators across three days, cementing its reputation among industry executives as the premier annual music festival in Asia.

Verstappen Wins While Rain Forces Schedule Adjustments

Verstappen’s win broke a decade-long drought for the Red Bull driver at the Singapore round. While the Dutch driver dominated on the track, hitting top speeds along the street circuit, the surrounding entertainment footprint operated across 11 live stages. Weather conditions presented immediate operational challenges ahead of the weekend. Neil Finn of Split Enz performed at the 2026 Singapore Formula 1 Grand Prix.

Rain forced adjustments to start times following a Sprint Race on Saturday, October 10, but organizers confirmed that all scheduled entertainment proceeded without cancellation. The downtown circuit sits within walking distance of approximately 25,000 hotel beds, a factor that helped international visitors account for half of the event’s 100,000-person daily attendance.

WME Brings 12 Clients to Asia's Coachella

William Morris Endeavour (WME) brought 12 clients to the festival portion of the weekend. Brett Murrihy, head of Asia Pacific and partner agent at WME, told Billboard that the firm refers to the gathering internally as the “Coachella of Asia.” Murrihy noted that no other festival in the region matches the event’s buying power or commercial influence. This year’s roster featured 43 musical acts, following a 2025 edition that included Elton John and the Foo Fighters.

Performers across the weekend included The Killers, Janet Jackson, Split Enz, JJ Lin, Lana Del Rey, Goo Goo Dolls, Zara Larsson, James Arthur, CORTIS, and regional acts. Organizers also introduced a floating Barge stage that hosted back-to-back electronic sets from DJ Snake, Major Lazer Soundsystem, TOKiMONSTA, Rev Run, Flight Facilities, Mark Ronson, and ZHU. Lana Del Rey closed out the festival with a performance at the 60,000-capacity Padang Stage, marking her first major concert in the city-state.

Adam Firth, executive director of Singapore GP, explained that the music programming aims to provide value for money and total entertainment when cars are off the track. Firth stated that the curatorial team spends the year identifying acts that appeal to a diverse demographic, ranging from teenage local fans to middle-aged European motorsport tourists. Major international artists frequently utilize the event as an exclusive market engagement, according to WME’s Murrihy, who pointed to the broader expansion of touring circuits across Indonesia, the Philippines, and India.

Government Agencies Coordinate Street Circuit Logistics

Staging a street circuit event across downtown Singapore requires cooperation across multiple public agencies over a nine-month build-and-tear-down cycle. Firth noted during a keynote at All That Matters 2026 at the Hilton Singapore Orchard that nearly every government department touches the operation, including police, transport, environment, and customs.

This inter-agency framework proved essential when rain delayed proceedings in 2022, prompting an emergency ministerial discussion at 9 p.m. on a Sunday that allowed train services to extend until approximately 1:30 a.m. Event organizers are currently evaluating whether to introduce a live-streaming element in future iterations, though broadcasting rights held by Formula 1 require distinct negotiations alongside artist agreements.
