Apple Reportedly Plans Folding iPhone Debut Next Year
Premium Pricing Expected for the New Device
The tech world is buzzing with anticipation as reports surface about Apple’s potential foray into the foldable smartphone market. Reliable sources suggest a launch next year, which would pit the tech giant against established competitors in a sector still finding its footing with consumers.
Foldable iPhone in Development
A new foldable iPhone could become a reality next year, according to analyst Ming-Chi Kuo. He stated that Apple might use displays from Samsung Display. They are planning on producing up to eight million foldable panels for the device next year. However, crucial components, like the hinge, remain undecided, Kuo wrote. He anticipates the product will have a premium price point.

“Apple’s plans for the foldable iPhone aren’t locked in yet and are subject to change,”
—Ming-Chi Kuo, Analyst
Although Apple’s iPhone generates substantial revenue, the foldable market is still small. In 2023, folding phones represented only 1.5% of smartphone sales worldwide (Trendforce data).
The Competitive Landscape
Since 2019, companies like Huawei and Samsung have introduced foldable smartphones. These devices aim to provide tablet-sized screens within a portable format. Yet, challenges persist, notably screen creases and consumer demand after the initial buzz.
With the foldable phone market still emerging and Apple entering later, the success of their new device remains uncertain. The final product’s features and reception will ultimately dictate if Apple can reshape this market.
