Amazon revamps Kindle lineup with Colorsoft and new page-turn accessories
An $80 magnetic case with integrated physical page-turn buttons sits alongside a $35 Bluetooth remote control called the Kindle Click, built specifically to let users turn pages from a distance after BookTok and social media trends inspired the peripheral.
A Complete Hardware Refresh Amid Rising Demand
Amazon has revamped its entire Kindle lineup, introducing new colors, thinner designs, and structural updates to the 6-inch Kindle, Kindle Paperwhite, and Kindle Colorsoft, even as demand for electronic readers surges among younger demographics.
The refreshed hardware arrives on the market following an industry-wide memory shortage that prompted Amazon to raise device costs in August, though the new units maintain the same baseline prices as their direct predecessors. According to bloomberglinea.com, the basic 6-inch Kindle starts at $150, with an aluminum-backed variant priced at $190. The 7-inch Kindle Paperwhite costs $200, alongside a $250 Signature Edition featuring double the storage, base-accessory wireless charging, and auto-adjusting front lighting. The 7-inch Kindle Colorsoft is priced at $290.
Amazon Adopts Reverse-Stacking Construction for EU Battery Compliance
Across the entire product family, Amazon has flattened the front display assembly. Zonamovilidad.es reported that the company adopted a reverse-stacking construction method for the first time on its e-readers, eliminating the raised bezel around the panel so that the exterior color extends uniformly from front to back.
Beneath the exterior modifications, the hardware incorporates components designed to meet upcoming European Union regulations. Xataka.com noted that the new models feature user-replaceable batteries to comply with the European Batteries Regulation, which requires portable device batteries to be easily removable by users starting February 18, 2027. Amazon prepared this generation ahead of that mandate, utilizing recycled materials in the standard Kindle casing and 100 percent recycled cobalt in its battery.
Kindle Models Feature Faster Performance and Extended Battery Life
The basic Kindle retains its 16 GB of storage and six-week battery life, but Zonamovilidad.es and other outlets report that it opens books 30 percent faster than the previous generation. The base model is offered in graphite and ube, while the new aluminum variant introduces alpine blue and water green finishes.
The Kindle Paperwhite reduces its physical profile while extending battery life to 12 weeks on a single charge. It includes water resistance, adjustable warm lighting, and the highest contrast ratio yet for the line. The Paperwhite Signature Edition steps up to 32 GB of storage, an aluminum back, and contact-based charging pads.
The Kindle Colorsoft updates its color reproduction through a nitride LED light guide, an oxide backplane with custom waveforms, and micro-deflectors designed to reduce light dispersion. Zonamovilidad.es reported that the standard Colorsoft starts at 299.99 euros with 16 GB, while the Signature Edition reaches 329.99 euros with 32 GB and aluminum casing.
First-Time Buyers and Younger Generations Drive Record Device Sales
The hardware refresh coincides with a period of significant growth for Amazon’s reading division. Device sales reached a decadal high last year, driven by three consecutive years of double-digit percentage growth. Approximately 60 percent of new hardware purchases come from first-time Kindle buyers, with younger generations leading the expansion as the product line approaches its 20th anniversary.
To accompany the new readers, Amazon introduced children’s editions for all three models, complete with a 12-month Kids+ subscription. Peripheral accessories include an $80 magnetic case with integrated physical page-turn buttons, a $55 charging dock, and the Kindle Click—a $35 Bluetooth remote control designed to let users turn pages from a distance. The company cited BookTok and social media trends as inspiration for the Kindle Click, which connects via Bluetooth and remains compatible with Kindle models released since 2024.
