Côte d’Ivoire Ushers in New Era for Aviation with Airbus A330-900neo Acquisition
Côte d’Ivoire has celebrated the arrival of a new Airbus A330-900neo, a landmark achievement hailed as a turning point for the nation’s aviation industry. Frist Lady Dominique Ouattara expressed important enthusiasm for the acquisition, emphasizing that it marks the first time Côte d’Ivoire has obtained a latest-generation, energy-efficient, connected wide-body aircraft comparable to those operated by leading global airlines. She highlighted the potential for improved accessibility, a strengthened international aviation presence, and easier connections for Ivorian citizens to destinations worldwide, alongside anticipated economic benefits for entrepreneurs and businesses.
Transport Minister Amadou Koné lauded President Alassane Ouattara’s leadership and the supportive government policies that have enabled Air Côte d’Ivoire‘s success. He pointed to the airline’s rapid growth since its launch on May 12, 2012, noting its current position as the leading carrier in West Africa, responsible for over half of the region’s passenger traffic. Koné stressed the importance of establishing long-haul routes for both economic growth and the airline’s long-term viability.
Details of the aircraft were presented by Air Côte d’Ivoire Board Chairman General Abdoulaye Coulibaly and Airbus’s President for Africa and the Caribbean, Gabriel Semelas. The Airbus A330-900neo, considered a flagship model for long-haul operations, is configured with 242 seats across four classes: four in First Class, 44 in Business class, 21 in Premium Class, and 173 in Economy Class. The aircraft also features a substantial baggage compartment designed for long-distance travel.
The A330-900neo boasts advanced technology, resulting in reduced fuel consumption and lower carbon emissions compared to older aircraft. It is also equipped with modern onboard entertainment and digital systems adhering to international aviation standards, prioritizing passenger comfort.
Industry analysts predict the acquisition will substantially enhance Côte d’Ivoire’s aviation competitiveness.Air Côte d’Ivoire will now be positioned to expand its route network to include destinations in europe,the Middle East,Asia,and the Americas,placing it alongside prominent African carriers like Ethiopian Airlines,EgyptAir,Kenya Airways,and South African Airways.
