Four More Suspects Arrested in $102 Million louvre Jewel Heist
PARIS – French authorities have arrested five additional suspects in connection with the audacious $102 million jewel heist at the Louvre Museum last month, bringing the total number of individuals implicated in the robbery to nine.Prosecutors announced the arrests Monday, revealing DNA evidence linking at least one suspect directly to the crime scene.
The latest arrests follow preliminary charges filed last month against three men and one woman allegedly involved in the meticulously planned theft. Investigators connected the suspects to the crime through DNA samples found on a scooter used in the robbers’ escape and on items abandoned at the scene, according to prosecutors.Two of the men already in custody have “partially” admitted to their involvement, one of whom was apprehended at a French airport while attempting to travel to algeria on a one-way ticket.
The woman previously charged, who shares children with one of the male suspects, maintains her innocence through her legal counsel.
The Louvre heist,which occurred in October,involved the theft of a notable collection of jewelry. The value of the stolen items is estimated at over $102 million, making it one of the largest jewel heists in French history.
