Polish Authorities Arrest Third Suspect in Railway Sabotage Case, two Others Sought
Warsaw, Poland – Polish authorities have arrested a third Ukrainian national in connection with the sabotage of a key railway line, while an international search continues for two other suspects believed to have fled to Belarus. The incident has sparked diplomatic tensions between Poland and Russia.
According to the Polish public prosecutor’s office, the arrested man, volodymyr B., is accused of assisting one of the primary suspects, Yevhenij I., by providing transportation in September 2025 to scout the area near the Warsaw-Lublin railway line for potential sabotage locations.
The two main suspects, identified as Olexandr K. and Yevhenij I., are currently at large and are believed to have sought refuge in Belarus. Poland has formally requested their extradition.
the sabotage occurred in mid-November, causing damage to the strategically significant railway connecting Warsaw to Lublin, a key route to the Ukrainian border.Damage was discovered after a train driver reported irregularities, preventing potential casualties. Further damage was subsequently found along the same line.
Poland responded to the incident by closing its last remaining Russian consulate and deploying thousands of soldiers to bolster infrastructure protection. Russia has denied any involvement in the sabotage and has, in turn, restricted Poland’s diplomatic and consular presence within Russia.
The incident is part of a broader pattern of arson, sabotage, and cyberattacks experienced by Poland and other European nations as the start of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in February 2022. Authorities suspect Russian involvement in these crimes. Poland remains a staunch ally of Ukraine in its defense against the ongoing Russian invasion.
