Detroit ‍House Explosion Confirmed as Natural Gas Leak

A house explosion in Detroit flattened⁢ the west side of a vacant residence ‌on thursday, Nov. 13, but caused‌ no injuries as no one‍ was inside at the time, according to the Detroit Fire Department. Investigators responding to reports of a gas leak‌ confirmed natural gas was ​the cause of the blast.

The vacant home,located on an undisclosed Detroit street,had been ‍unoccupied for approximately two years,neighbors told authorities. A neighbor ⁤reported ‍hearing the sound​ of gas leaking prior to the explosion, prompting the examination. The incident underscores the importance of reporting suspected gas leaks and highlights DTE Energy’s role in ensuring gas safety.

Detroit fire Chief Reginald Harper, in a video statement, confirmed the neighbor’s report. “One of the neighbors complained about the ‌sound of ​gas leaking,” Harper ‍said.

DTE Energy stated it will investigate any reported leaks, determine necessary corrective actions for property owners, and, if needed, shut off service as a safety measure. Anyone who⁤ smells or suspects ​a natural gas leak is urged to promptly call ⁢911 and then DTE’s dedicated leak hotline at 800-947-5000.
