Nuuk, Greenland – A small plane crashed in the mountains of Greenland on Monday, October 27th, with no survivors, authorities confirmed. The aircraft, a Cessna T182, went missing from radar on Saturday, October 25th, while flying over Sermitsiaq Island, north of Nuuk, Greenland’s capital.
The plane originated from Newfoundland and Labrador, a province in eastern Canada, and was registered to a United States-based company, according to Naviair, Denmark’s air navigation service provider. Search efforts were hampered by dense fog that blanketed the region over the weekend, delaying the revelation of the wreckage.
“This morning the crash site was located, and unluckily, there were no survivors,” Naviair stated. The wreckage was found on Mount Sermitsiaq,an area described by greenland Police as “inaccessible,” complicating recovery and inquiry efforts.
Brian Thomsen of the Greenland Police explained, “The plane was found on mount Sermitsiaq, but in an area that is currently inaccessible, making it difficult for authorities to take further action.”
authorities have not yet released the identity of the single occupant of the aircraft. The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
