Arizona State ​Hit with $50,000 Fine for Field-Storming After Upset of Texas Tech

TEMPE, Ariz. – Arizona State University has been ⁢fined $50,000 by the Big 12 Conference following a field-storming ​incident that occurred after the Sun Devils’ 26-22 upset victory over No. ​7 Texas Tech on Oct. 18 at Mountain America ​Stadium, the conference announced Monday.

The ⁤fine stems from fans rushing the field as Texas Tech players and coaches were attempting to⁤ exit, creating a possibly unsafe habitat. Videos circulating on social ‌media showed interactions between ‍fans and Red Raiders personnel.

The Big 12 statement read: “In accordance with the Big 12 Conference Principles and Standards of Sportsmanship, the Conference has ⁢issued a public reprimand and $50,000 fine ​of Arizona⁤ State University for the ⁤field storming incident​ that occurred⁤ during Saturday’s football game ‍against Texas Tech.

“The Big 12 prioritizes the safety of all players, coaches, and officials. The conference will continue to work with all of its⁣ institutions on event⁤ management policies at ⁢all Big 12 venues.”

Similar fines have been levied against other universities ‍for comparable incidents.Arizona State joined the Big 12 Conference in 2023.
