TOKYO – the draw for the FIBA Women’s Basketball World cup 2026 Qualifying Tournaments has been completed, outlining the paths for nations vying for a spot in the 2026 World Cup in Berlin, Germany. The qualifying tournaments, to be held March 11-17, 2026, will see 24 teams compete for 16 available berths.
The tournaments will be hosted across four cities: Istanbul,Turkey; Lyon,France; San Juan,Puerto Rico; and Wuhan,China.
Qualifying Tournament Groups:
* Lyon, France: France (3), Nigeria (8), Germany (12), south Korea (15), Colombia (19), Philippines (39)
* San Juan, Puerto Rico: USA (1), Spain (6), Puerto Rico (13), Italy (14), New Zealand (21), Senegal (25)
* Wuhan, China: Belgium (5), China (4), Brazil (9), czech Republic (17), Mali (18), South sudan (55)
The top four teams from each city will advance to the FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup 2026. Teams that have already secured qualification as continental cup winners or the host nation, Germany, are denoted with a ★ and will participate in the final tournament regardless of their qualifying tournament results.
The FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup 2026 will be held in Berlin, germany, from September 4-13, 2026. The tournament format will feature a group phase with four groups of four teams,followed by a quarterfinal and final phase.
Japan previously qualified for the 2022 tournament, finishing in second place in their qualifying group. Prior to that,qualification was determined by continental cup results. Japan has participated in 14 total FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup tournaments,with a best finish of ninth place in 2022 and reaching the final in 1975.
