Hamas Considers Trump’s Gaza Peace Plan

by Lucas Fernandez – World Editor

Hamas is ⁢signaling a willingness to quickly accept former President Donald Trump’s proposed‌ ceasefire plan for Gaza, a source familiar with the discussions told ⁢CBS News on Monday, September 30, 2024, at‌ 14:06:16 UTC. The potential shift comes as international pressure mounts ‍to end the ongoing conflict between Israel⁢ and Hamas, which began on October 7,2023,following a Hamas attack on Israel that killed approximately 1,200 people and led to the capture of over 240 hostages.

The rapid consideration of Trump’s plan, details of which remain largely undisclosed, marks ⁢a notable development in ceasefire‌ negotiations. Previous attempts mediated by Egypt, Qatar, and the United States have stalled, with both sides failing to agree on ⁢key terms, including the duration of a ceasefire and the release of hostages held in Gaza. The urgency to reach a resolution has‍ intensified due to the ⁣escalating humanitarian crisis in Gaza, where over 1.7 million people-roughly 75% of the population-have been displaced, according to the United Nations.
