Lavrov Accuses NATO adn EU of ‘Neocolonial Ambitions,’ Declares ‘Real war’ Against Russia
New York – Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov sharply criticized NATO and the European Union during a G20 foreign ministers meeting held alongside the 80th session of the UN General Assembly, accusing them of pursuing “neocolonial ambitions” that fuel global instability and declaring they have engaged in “a real war” against Russia.
Lavrov asserted that NATO and the EU are disregarding the principles of the United Nations, framing their actions as a continuation of colonial-era power dynamics. His remarks follow recent statements by former U.S. President Donald Trump, who labeled Russia a “paper tiger” and suggested a potential return of Ukraine to its original borders, while also advocating for NATO members to intercept drones in their airspace.
According to the Russian state news agency TASS, Lavrov stated, “NATO and the European Union have already declared a real war to my country and are directly involved in it.” He characterized this as a violation of international law and a direct confrontation with Russia.
The Russian minister also linked the conflict in Ukraine to the ongoing crisis in the Middle East, stating the latter is “in a row” with the situation in Ukraine and has resulted in 65,000 casualties. Lavrov further warned that “None of Israel’s neighbors can feel safe.”
