Trump Suggests Ukraine Can Prevail with EU & NATO support, Shifts Tone on Russia
Donald Trump stated in New York that he believes Ukraine can regain its territory with the support of the European union and NATO, after assessing the military and economic realities of the conflict. “After getting to know and fully understood the Ukrainian-Russian military and economic situation and I saw how much economic problem it is for Russia, I think Ukraine can fight with the European Union and regain all Ukraine in its original form,” Trump saeid.
This marks a important departure from Trump’s recent statements. He questioned on his Truth Social account, “Over time, patience, europe, and in particular NATO financial support, it is possible to achieve valid limits at the beginning of war. why not?”
The shift follows a meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on Tuesday. In February, during a White House visit from Zelensky, reports indicated Trump told the Ukrainian leader he had “no racket cards” and was ”playing with the Third World War.”
Trump asserted Russia has been engaged in the war for three and a half years, and that a genuinely powerful military would have secured victory within a week.he characterized Russia as a “paper tiger,” adding, “Putin and Russia are economically in great trouble, it’s time for Ukraine.”
He acknowledged his previous belief that his relationship with Putin could facilitate a fast resolution, but stated that relationship “sadly did not mean anything.” During a joint press conference, discussion occurred regarding potential NATO intervention – specifically, shooting down Russian aircraft violating federation airspace, with possible US participation, though Trump noted this would depend on the circumstances.
According to Zelensky, Trump indicated a willingness to provide security guarantees to Ukraine once the war concludes.
